I scrolled down through the rest of the .nfo file for the crack I was using for a game... I had to remove most of the interesting "hey looks looks cool" coding becuase the filligree kinda missed the point and obscured most of the actual text.

now, you are a part of the game, too. all your personal qualities
have been logged and u can't exit untill your death. its game of
information... someone call it illegal, someone can't agree with it
or tries to deny it, it makes one disappoint, or happy, but cracking
force exist without asking for your opinion. the crime of the most
enthusiasts is that of curiosity, is that of reversing, is that of
willing to know 'how it must be'. and they explore... they change
bytes, they unpack, debug and analyze those 'uncrackable routines'
you can't even imagine, and it gives them pleasure, it gives them
knowledge...
nowdays, many people are envolved into it-related branches of
industry. lots of ideas and their realizations appear every day. they
make doing specific sums more easier, but software developers want to
get compensation for their 'hard work'. they protect... to the most
of them it seems unbeliveable to share their code, getting experience
by discussing it, making it better... there is no argue with buying
'really good' apps, their authors never try getting much from it, you
enjoy support and programm for your money, coz author wants to get
experience, too. he optimizes it, he wants it work better. we want
more such authors, less those greedy men, who wants you pay for buggy
shit never worth seeing. best is open source... individuals of even
cracking groups may go down, but challenge will never end...
nevertheless its just a game...

Trust me, heard it before.
Uhm... in this journal in fact, not too long ago.
When it comes to music copyrights I have this whole philosophical, world view point sort of thing about it that makes it difficult to justify supporting most record companies.

When it comes to games, I just don't want to pay $25 for a silly little game that I'm only going to play for a few weeks and then get bored of. If I can avoid it, I will (and if I use it for more than a couple weeks, I'll go and pay for it)

Free trials on most games these days are time restricted not content restricted. I'd greatly prefer having it be content restricted. Give me 4 of the 32 levels and only half the stuff you're supposed to have instead of cutting me off in the middle of something because I've hit your one hour free trial limit (especially aggravating when they count pause time, as I end up starting and stopping a game a LOT)

Yeah, I know. Really I just liked the mental image of this psychotic sackdress-wearing evil lump of a woman with a switch, the thing that let Norman Bates know that filesharing is BAAAAD.

Gah. My machine is so old that I don't even try to play any of the new games. There's just no other reason at all to bother upgrading the thing, and nothing new enough to bother upgrading for has come out since about Homeworld or maybe the first Deus Ex. Freecraft builds in less than five minutes, the web works, AbiWord loads documents as fast as I can click... the only thing I'd really like that I don't have here is a flat panel, and even then they don't make 19" ones for less than $UNGODLY.

I haven't had the free time to crack games since the late 80s anyway.

Eh, the 19" flat panels still have a *terrible* response time for the most part. I have two 17" ones that don't *feel* terribly different from the bigger CRT that I had (can't remember exactly how big it was. Karl will know), mainly becuase of the slim frame and the lack of glass curve around the edges.
You're right though, even a really crap response time on a 19" screen is going to cost money money.

Karl and I are both gamer dorks, more Karl than me since I still really enjoy Heretic much more than I enjoy most new games. What I have right now is a P4, 2.4 GHz, 768 MB of RAM, and an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. This machine is the older of the two main machines (there is also a server, which is just stripped for serving performance, and a music machine that goes along with his pro tools setup and audio components which we'll be upgrading soon), and we've got the wishlist set up with the components for a new machine for me. We'll probably just be moving the graphics card over.
His main machine he built not too long ago.
But again, gamer dorks.

The game I was using a crack for was a pop cap game. As alicia can attest to, they are incredibly, horrificly addictive.

OOOH.. but ya know what, Gates? Black and White two is coming out and the reviews have been *excellent*...
