So we have several downed limbs. One took out a chunk of fence. We have TWO sitting on top of the carport. They don't look like they caused damage, but they sure as shit are enormous and hanging out on top of the carport. There's also a good foot of snow. I don't know if we should call back the yokel guy who wanted to charge $1000 to take the dead wood out of the tree in front (and they'd surely want to charge more for taking these limbs out and cleaning out the other potentially horrible limbs from the two pine trees) or if I should try to find another tree service that's definitely local/insured/etc.

I'm Soooo no good with this type of thing.

I want like... other people to deal with this. Maybe I'll look through that community phone book thing and see if there is a neighborhood recommended tree service. guuuh

Our carport, last week... fell down. Crushed the next-door peoples' van flat. Merlin was out with the kids; she'd promised the little ones a trip to the dollar store. I guess there's a moral lesson there about keeping your promises.

My children want your snow. ALL YOUR SNOW ARE BELONG.. no, no, that's just too stupid. But they want it anyway.

If you can stand to talk to your neighbors, see if there's anyone they recommend.

Oh yeah, and VA winters don't impress me.

This winter has just been *weird*. We usually don't get snow until after January, but then when we do it's a constant foot+ on the ground until the end of March. We had a DISGUSTINGLY hot and humid summer and then an incredibly mild and balmy winter. And now out of nowhere a foot of heavy snow and ice. It's been a very odd weather year.

Now, in southern VA (virginia beach/hampton roads area) you're lucky if you see a single flake all year. Up until this storm though, they'd had more snow than we did (and we're in Fairfax/dc metro).

I've thought about the neighbors. Our next door people are head of the housing association (they're like.. the king and queen of the neighborhood prom. People come out of their houses to greet them when they walk past) so they'll definitely have a line on it.
