PUNKS ARE NOT STRAIGHTEDGE.
PUNKS DO NOT LOVE GREEN DAY.
PUNKS DO NOT RUN AROUND CALLING THEMSELVES FUCKING PUNK ALL THE TIME.
PUNKS DO NOT JOIN 'PUNK CLUBS'
PUNKS DO NOT APOLOGIZE FOR ANY OF THEIR MUSIC TASTES.

punk is a music style.
being a punk is something entirely fuckin different.

and I'm going to stop being such a music snob now... I shouldn't read other people's journals EVER.

I'm feeling more and more punk lately.

It may be infectious, after having all those neighborhood kids hanging around at the store with me.

There's a difference in being a punk and being punk. Being punk embraces everything against the stream, so to say. Punk athletes are (were) skaters, because skating in itself went against the basis of a sport. You didn't skate for a team, trying to get more goals/points/runs than other skaters. Being punk meant standing against things you didn't believe in, mostly things that people had the tendency to believe was righteous and true. Being punk wasn't going into some clothing store and have some no-neck shit telling you what pants and shirt outfit was fitting of punk, as defined by MTV. Being punk meant living against the stream, but not necessarily putting up a swim. Most punks tended to feel the stream should just change for them, simply because it wasn't right. Some would say swim against the stream, but the stream will eventually get the best of you. I say freeze the stream and get the fuck out of the water, personally.

whatever dude-
there are a lot of non-punk sports that don't involve "team" involvement--

Re:
You're missing the point. Skating has punk origins. Punks wanted something athletic they could do, yet didn't want the need to "measure up" in regards to score. That's not to say that all sports that involve scoring = non-punk, we also had Ultimate Frisbee.

I actually saw some kind of "how-to" book for being punk at the Virgin Megastore earlier (and, apparently, I seem to own everything that's reasonably priced, incidentally...). That's as scary as the Wicca for dummies kinda book alex and lenore and I saw in the Oxford Borders...
