I missed the Deftones....

Done feeding, I leaned back head rested on the couch's top
Must leave the house soon mean gone cause my pops he's hot
Grab my blue backpack, My walkman, grip my bicycle
Because I know my friends are waiting at the door
I'm feeling loose like you - Just fucking around and shit
Til that comes fifty-five I'm twenty-six

Let me go I give more
And you know I fold I

Come at me! Come! Come!
My activites don't cross but they create
You know I want to pick you up
But they don't want you to
Asking for it, like we got
Yes we cross but we create
You know I want to pick you up
But they don't want you - shit fuck'em

When I said I missed them, I meant I missed them becuase white pony was such a cop out on their part. They died somwhere in the middle of their growing popularity. Apparently Around the Fur and a music video made them decide that they could just change their entire sound on purpose because they were older.
I know a lot of people who just freakin FLAMED deftones because of their long standing support of the band and then their extreme let down when they went soft for mainstream acceptability.

Adrenaline is the end all be all for me.
WHite Pony I only stomached one listen through

i'm the other way around. i love white pony. it's one of those albums...you put it on and drift away to wherever you were when you first heard it...

i do the same with around the fur [shut up & drive...omg, i love that fucking song......] and adrenline kicked.

i must admit, i they have changed...much like korn, and pretty much any band. compare Korn's Issues with their first cd 'Korn' and you'll see a huge difference. it's pretty much the same for alot of bands.

but, like i said, i love deftones. check my info page for more bands i dig.

See with Korn it wasn't so much of a concious decision to change (chino announced before while recording white pony that they were purposefully softening their sound because they all had kids now) as it was the A&R people taking note of them and getting them to shoot for mainstream acceptability.
Their self titled was pure them... just as pure them as the bootleg concert tapes I first heard them on from my lil hardcore friends. Life is Peachy was pretty on the mark as well, but with the popularity of A.D.I.D.A.S., it started to go down hill. Their last two albums MAY have just been some sort of artistic progression, but the change is so immediate and marked that I find that hard to believe. Sort of like Metallica. They didn't just change their style, but their whole fanbase, look, and general message. Even the Black album was loosing them support from the fans that made their band. If ANYONE can be accused of fucking over their fans, it's Metallica.

I think Tool and SOAD are the only *recent* bands I can think of who've gotten popular and still stuck to their musical roots. They haven't felt the need to be more marketable to boost album sales.. they're still making the music they've always made.
