I'm eating a Thomas' Waffle.

They're not bad, except they're just too sweet. I've had waffles from people who made them this way.... these are the same people who think that 5 cups of syrup on pancakes is the *only* way to eat them and their capphuchino is not complete until they've added a cup of sugar.
I made a huge pot of coffee today. very ambitious of me. I went to look up Thomas' muffins and found that they've been owned by Bestfoods since '97.

Bestfoods owns the labels:
Hellman's
Bestfoods
Skippy
Mazola
Karo
Argo
Rit
Knorr USA
Knorr Global
Nutrablend.

SO that's not bad compared to say ... the johnson & johnson conglomerates. But, wait... I see here it says it's merged with Unilever... so lets see what Unilever owns...

Their full list includes some recently aqquired Bestfoods products. and their full list is pretty huge. It has to be divided into categories.

Magnum ice cream
Solero
Breyers
Omo
Flora
Hellmann's mayonnaise
Knorr
Bertoli
Maille (has a global turnover of 93 million pounds... very freaky...)
Ragu
Continental
Lawry's
Unox (marketted in the netherlands)
Birds Eye
Findus
Iglo
Lipton tea
I can't believe it's not Butter
Rama
Becel
Pro-activ
Domestos
Cif
Archetype
Omo
Ala
Snuggle
Comfort
Axe
Rexona
Impulse
Organics
SunSilk
ThermaSilk
Dove
Lux
Vaseline
Ponds
Slim Fast
Signal
Close-Up
House of Valentino
House of Cerruti
Calvin Klein (fragrances)

And they announce a multi-million dollar cross-over platofrm advertising alliance with AOL Time Warner.

So, okay, they own everything and are now in an ad alliace with Time Warner.

There there is Kraft
Good old Kraft.
Who is now conglommerated with Nabisco and RJR... but you knew that, right?
Everytime you buy oreos you're supporting big tobacco.
Velveeta, toblerone..... hell.. WHEAT THINS.

And I forgot about their metals corporation
Reynolds wrap, plastic wrap... All big tobacco.

ANd don't get me started on nestle.

So spin me another one about how EASY it is to boycott products.

Sure, I can do it with NIKE... if I remember to avoid Airwalk and all the companies NIKE is invested in and all the companies it gets parts from... so I have to research all of THOSE companies and see who they sell to.

It's not as easy as "I don't like the corner grocer, I won't use his store and that will hurt his business" anymore. Boycotting is a nice idea. I like it. But it's pretty useless beyond an inter-city frame of reference.
As are petitions and letter writing campaigns if you can't get enough people to participate, and then... you're really only asking to be noted and taken into consdieration. which they have every option of just disregarding.

Online petitions? STOP PASSING THEM AROUND. They DO NOT HELP.
They don't usually even GO anywhere.
ANd those petition sites that would have you believe they do are full of it.
FULL OF IT.

What is that answer here then?

I say we fund hackers... but that's just me.
