So I go to The Jehovah's Witness Information Center and find a bunch of links. Some of these links are even 'support for former witnesses'... apparently they need support?
And there is a link named Support Group for Ex Jehovah's Witnesses and under it says "You are not alone...".
The link ostensibly points to http://www.support4xjws.org but clicking the link takes you to an 18+ webcam page.

Bleh.

Are you an ex-witness? Here I thought it was just me. Still haven't quite found the energy to return the mounds of literature I have, or the heart to throw it all away. Geh. S'pose someone could start an LJ community... wouldn't that just be exciting.

Waugh, they're here already. Damn, back when I was a publisher, they were frowning on the whole Ninternet concept.

Nah, I'm not an ex anything. I wasn't raised with a religion.
It had just occured to me lately that I don't know anything about JW, but I know some about just about ever other christian denomination.. and most of them I've been to their churches.
But I didn't know anything about JW, which stuck me as odd given that my closest friend from about 6th through 10th grade was a JW and I spent a *lot* of time in her house and around her family.

So I was looking for some information beyond the forbiddance of blood and some vague mention of elders or passing out watchtowers. Most of what I end up getting are lame jokes and very very *very* biased sites, for or against. I'm just pretty obnoxiously curious about religion and spirituality. ::nods::

Re:
I was hard-core for a few years; baptized and door-to-door and conventions and everything. Got to live with a family of Witnesses. I think I've got a pretty good handle on the scene, and relatively unbiased. If you ever are curious.

The thing is... I have people whos brains I could concievably pick... but I really don't want to bug them. I mean really really don't want to.
It's not a *dire* information situation anyway. I'm just curious.

Like I said to a friend last night, it's usually when I stop actively looking for these things (and give up on the idea that it's just a church conspiracy to keep non believers from the truth or .. hehehe.. whatever fiction I'm working under at the time.. ) that they fall into my lap.

But well, I do have questions about this post here...
You went to JW on your own? It wasn't a family thing? How old were you? What was the impetus?

Heh.. and what do you mean by "relatively unbiased" ?
Truth be told... I'd rather get info from someone who's biased FOR instead of AGAINST. I can do my own critical thinking and pull out what I find useful and discard what I don't find useful. It's more difficult to pull out the bare bones from someone who is definitely AGAINST, as personal dislike tends to heavily color what they have to say in a way that makes nigh on impossible to discern the actuality of things.
