My Hit List (out and out rant)

If a movie has one of the following people in it, I'm instantly dubious... sometimes even nauseous.
I've been told this makes me a snob.
So be it.

Movie Puppets I Loathe (in no particular order)

Freddy Prinze Jr
Ashton Kutcher
Matthew Lillard
Sarah Michelle Gellar
Jason Biggs
Shannon Elizabeth
Denise Richards
Charlie Sheen
Tara Reid
Alyson Hannigan
Sharon Stone
Ryan Phillippe
Jennifer Love Hewwit
Jeff Daniels
Gina Davis
Seann William Scott

I'm sure there are more...
I'm *sure* there are more.. I just can't think of them at the moment.
Comment! Leave *your* most annoying movie puppets! Argue with me! Call me names for hating Buffy! c'mon! freeforall! WOOHOOO!

update!
Some people I forgot:
Julia Stiles
Britney Murphy
Claire Danes
Renee Zelwegger (someone explain this to me... really)
Yasmine Bleeth

(some of these people aren't really active movie people at the moment. SO what? I'm going to bitch about them anyway...)

Rebecca DeMornay
Lou Diamond Phillips
Jamie Lee Curtis
Darryl Hannah
Kevin Costner
Michael Douglas (just can't stand him)
Melanie Griffith
Matthew Broderick
Meg Ryan

(ya know... it's like... anyone popular from the last 20 years... Chances are they annoy me. Like I said to Ken below, I shouldn't attempt a full list of the hates because it will become clear that I only *really* like about 5 people)

Tom Hanks

Mary Steenburgen
Andy McDowell
Kathleen (is she american?) Turner. (notice as the years have gone on she's begun to sound more and more... "foreign"? Just like the vague "accent" that Tina Turner developed? )
Martin Short
(shoot him)
James Woods
Val Kilmer
Wesley Snipes
Ralph Finnes
Russell Crowe
Winona Ryder
Ben Affleck
Will Smith
Ethan Hawke
John Travolta...

OKay .. okay .. I've gone on enough.. sorry ... everyone annoys me.. we'll just put it that way

I wanna play, too
Really?

Election was very good and she did a damn fine job in it. Granted her character was annoying as hell, but she was supposed to be. Pleasantville was, um, pleasant. Surprisingly (to me)i've heard positive things about Legally Blonde.

My shudder list would contain people like Tom Green, David Spade, Chris Farley, a whole bunch of other SNL-types, Julia Roberts, Claire Forlani, Drew Barrymore, Barbra Streisand, most action stars, gosh, just a whole bunch of people that i don't have time to type up.

Re: I wanna play, too
See, in Election and Legally Blonde she really didn't... act.
She was just this over the top characature. Everyone in those movies are. It's just one elongated skit. That would be like saying that Ellen Barkin really turned in a stellar performance in Drop Dead Gorgeous.
She was over the top trailer trash...not really a role that calls for delicate skills and subtlety

I never saw pleasantville so I really can't say.

See, I didn't get into the really long "all actors who suck" list becuase it would soon become clear that I only really *dig* about 5 or 6 actors in a general way... and then I'd just look mean and we couldn't have that!

But the Claire there reminded me of just how *awful* Claire Danes is.

Re: I wanna play, too
Honestly, I haven't seen her act. I've just seen her make various appearances on stuff like the Daily Show or Conan. She truly struck me as a magical mixture of annoying, vapid, and shallow. How-evah, I dont see why that would necessarily prevent her from being a goodish actress...!

Re: YES can I play?
Ya know, I have to agree.
I've been told she's this really good actress, I've just yet to see it. She fits the roles she plays, but that doesn't mean she's *good*, ya know?

And I used to really like Kirsten Dunst too, but well... she's another who is either just picking *really* shitty roles (that will make her massive bank) or she lost all acting ability when she his puberty.

Re: YES can I play?
Good point. Taking your own personality to cartoonish extremes may not exactly count as "acting" or "aaaht".

I thought of two more ones I could live without.
Carmen Electra
Pamela Anderson/Lee/Rock/whatever

And a HELL YES on Melanie Griffith (DIE!!!) and Martin Short.

I was going to argue veheminently against your list, but then I noticed I misread the title. I was going to say that comparing these actors to Muppets was a terrible thing. The Muppets are cool!

I agree completely on Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen (talk about the potential for scary kids there). The others I don't really care about in a movie. None of them really add anything to a character, though Ashton Kutcher does play idiots well enough to amuse me.

The most annoying movie puppets for me are most of the newer SNL cast that have gone into movies and tv. I can't stand Adam Sandler or David Spade. If either of the "comedians" had more then one character in their repetoir, I might change my opinion.

And since you asked... BITCH! Buffy is GREAT!

:)

Bah! Ashton Kutcher plays idiot so well becuase he *is* an idiot. I've seen him in interviews and he's just *so* lame and inane. He doesn't act.... that's really him.

Adam Sandler and David Spade aren't actors... and I haven't seen them pretend to be, that's why they didn't make my list.

Buffy sucks soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much.

Geena Davis is *ok*. By which I mean she's made some good movies, not that she's Oscar material or anything.

I honestly don't think I've seen her in anything that I thought was good.

Julia Stiles has done so little that I'm reserving judgment.

Just from the couple of things I've seen her in, I wasn't impressed. Besides, I wasn't talking about goodness, necessarily.. just who annoys me.

Claire Danes was good in Romeo and Juliet.

That movie was pure poop through and through. The only things that *didn't make me want to projectile vomit all over Baz Luhrman were the guy who played Mercutio and John Leguizamo. Otherwise there wasn't a performance, a costume, a scene or an inflection that wasn't putrid.

Yes, I have strong feelings about this one.

Michael Douglas has done some really cool stuff. The Game for example.

He's an icky old man with one facial expression that I've been told again and again I'm supposed to find attractive.
BLEH.

Matthew Broderick was excellent in Glory. In everything else he's just a washed-up rehash of Ferris Bueller.

Matthew Broderick could have just read directly from the script in Glory and he could be called good becuase that's how well written that movie was.
The MATERIAL there was his only saving grace. He's just... *him* .. in everything.

Tom Hanks rules, although I am getting tired of seeing his face.

He's cute in a romantic comedy. He's not a good dramatic actor. Again, I didn't mean goodness, I meant people who annoy me... He annoys me and he always has even since his Bosom Buddies days.
Really.

I'm really going out on a limb here, but I like James Woods.

Ya know, I've heard that from a lot of guys.
I thought he did an excellent job of a portrayal of Roy Cohn... that was hard to pull off, given how disgusting, but utterly human Cohn was. So he gets props for that. I don't really think he's a bad actor... but he just gets under my skin.. something about him.

Val Kilmer is passable.

I'll give him the credit for his acting. Some of his movies have been really impressively done.
But *he* annoys me and usually if I hear he's in a movie (especially in the last few years) it seriously makes me reconsider.

Wesley Snipes seldom pretends to be anything but an action hero.

And yet, he's still unbelievable as an action hero...

Ralph Fiennes is a good actor. Ever see Strange Days?

Yes, and I still think he's horrible.

Russel Crowe is an excellent actor. A Beautiful Mind was one of the best acting jobs I've ever seen out of anybody.

See, A Beautiful Mind I've never seen... so maybe that's just the thing that's important. He's not a *bad* actor. He's not Keannu or anything. But I've not seen him be exceptionally *good* either. Certainly in no outstanding way.

Ethan Hawke was great in Gattaca

See, I don't think he was even good in that. He's another one who's just... always him.
And I've never understood why so many people find that to be *such* a good movie.

The rest of 'em I'll give ya.

hehe.. why thank you.. thank you very much.

I think you're the only one to argue thus far.rock on ::grin::

Besides, I wasn't talking about goodness, necessarily.. just who annoys me.

From my perspective, that indicates that "arguing" is kind of pointless. Hence my not bothering.

Although I have to say that I'd have thought Quiz Show or Schindler's List would have been much better examples of Ralph Fiennes work than Strange Days. I can also report that he does a very acceptable Hamlet.

Good for you, Dave. Staying above the fray and keeping your opinions to yourself. Good job. Kudos. Bully for you.

Okay.
He's still annoying. If for no other reason than for making up a pronunciation for his name.

Dave, you can feel free to express your opinions. I know you don't want me to tear into you again, and I won't promise that I won't, but posting to point out that you know that I might is sort of lame of you.

That actually wasn't my intention.

I really don't see any point in arguing when there's nothing to argue. If it's about actors that annoy you, then they annoy you. What, I should tell you they don't? Should I tell you that I don't find them annoying? What would be the point?

It just so happens that on quite a number of those on your list I agree, and even some of those on whom I don't, I can certainly understand why you find them annoying (Matthew Broderick, for instance, does a good deal of junk. However, having seen him in some of his less seen performances - such as his stage work - I know he can be better. From the stuff one usually sees, however, I can see thinking he's crap.).

So, really, I was just saying there's a level at which things are basically opinion, and that's the level where I usually prefer to say "ok, we can agree to disagree".

Which, actually, is what I said. No issues of tearing, just a comment reflecting how I saw something.

Hi, I don't know you, but I thought I might play along too
Ashton Kutcher - ok, he's not a good actor, granted....but gosh, he's hot.

Matthew Lillard - he was good in Serial Mom (which you probably didn't like because of Kathleen Turner, anyway), Hackers, SLC Punk...other things I can't think of...

Jennifer Love Hewwit - God I hate her. You're so very very right. I can't believe they let her play Audrey Hepburn (my favorite actress), I refuse to see the movie.

Julia Stiles - She was great in State and Main and also she has made the only semi-decent teenspoltation movie - 10 Things I Hate About You.

Claire Danes - You're kidding. My So-Called Life?

Renee Zelwegger - I'll explain. She was really lovely in Bridget Jones' Diary. And the accent wasn't as hideous as it could have been.

Kathleen Turner - Serial Mom and also Virgin Suicides which I personally think is the greatest novel to movie ever. Sofia Coppola did a beautiful job expressing the soul of that book, it's a lovely companion to the novel.

James Woods - Also in Virgin Suicides. Plus, he was in this really great indie movie, which of course I can't think of the name right now. He played a herion addict and he did a great job of it.

Val Kilmer - Awww....he was my favorite actor when I was like two - five. :( He was in Real Genius which I would watch obsessively.

Russell Crowe - I really hate him. Really really. But he's a good actor...not in Gladiator, which was god awful, but in A Beautiful Mind he proved himself as a really incredible actor.

Winona Ryder - Beetlejuice! Another childhood favorite. The Heathers (if you were ever a teenage girl how could you sincerely not like this?). Girl, Interrupted was also rather good although Angelina Jolie should NOT have won the Oscar. Then again, the Oscar never goes to the right person so it really shouldn't matter.

Ben Affleck - Any Kevin Smith movie instantly disproves that. Please.

Re: Hi, I don't know you, but I thought I might play along too
These aren't necessarily people I think are foul actors (except that first chunk in my list. They're vile) but just people that I am not impressed with or who just annoy me.

But okey dokey.

Ashton Kutcher - ok, he's not a good actor, granted....but gosh, he's hot.

Oh dear LORD let that be sarcasm. Really. He's not horribly deformed in any physical way. That's about all I can say for him. And any interview with him will reveal a brain the size of a walnut. There's absolutely nothing attractive about aggresively stupid people.

Matthew Lillard - he was good in Serial Mom (which you probably didn't like because of Kathleen Turner, anyway), Hackers, SLC Punk...other things I can't think of...

Serial Mom was just a total goofy movie. Saw it once and forgot it.Hackers was a HORRIBLE movie and he was horrible in it. Knowing people who *know* emmanuel goldstein and cereal killer (two different people) in real life sort of kills the idea that he could be an inane 17 year old dredlocked hacker boy.
There's nothing nothing nothing good in that movie if you've *any* knowledge of hacking BEYOND that movie. Even reading a few cdc or 10pht kills that.
Matthew Lillard is one of those non-negotiables. He's assy. That's all there is to it.

Julia Stiles - She was great in State and Main and also she has made the only semi-decent teenspoltation movie - 10 Things I Hate About You.

Which was honestly made okay by the non-main characters (as was most shakespeare) and not the leads.

Claire Danes - You're kidding. My So-Called Life?

You're kidding. My So-Called Acting?
She talked in a dead pan and cried on cue. Be still my heart.

Kathleen Turner - Serial Mom and also Virgin Suicides which I personally think is the greatest novel to movie ever. Sofia Coppola did a beautiful job expressing the soul of that book, it's a lovely companion to the novel.

I've not seen that movie. Since she's done *many* more than just those two, I still maintain that she's annoying.

James Woods - Also in Virgin Suicides. Plus, he was in this really great indie movie....He played a herion addict and he did a great job of it.

Again, he's annoying. I have nothing against him as an actor because I've seen him do some quality work.. but I find *him* annoying.

Val Kilmer - Awww....he was my favorite actor when I was like two - five. :( He was in Real Genius which I would watch obsessively.

He was also in Top Secret, but since then he's become this incredibly pompous method actor fop.
As I said elsewhere in a reply, it's not his acting.. it's him.

Russell Crowe - I really hate him. Really really. But he's a good actor...not in Gladiator, which was god awful, but in A Beautiful Mind he proved himself as a really incredible actor.

I never saw A Beautiful Mind, but ya know I didn't *mind* Gladiator, even if Joaquin Phoenix is the most banal and bland actor currently employed... yes he's even worse than Toby Maguire.
I think Crowe is drastically over hyped.

Winona Ryder - Beetlejuice! Another childhood favorite. The Heathers (if you were ever a teenage girl how could you sincerely not like this?). Girl, Interrupted was also rather good .

Winona Ryder is the same person in everything, just in different clothes and different makeup. She's not an actress, she's a prop.

Ben Affleck - Any Kevin Smith movie instantly disproves that. Please.

Please, yourself. Any Kevin Smith movie instantly proves how excellent writing can make ANYONE look good. Ben Affleck is a talentless cardboard cut out with 3 facial expressions and a chin cleft you could grow crops in. He road into hollywood on Matt Damon's coattails (matt damon who I said nothing against becase, even though he's disgustingly overhyped, he can actually *act*) and has churned out slop ever since (excepting the Smith vehicles).

I wonder why no one defended the older actors more... I would have thought *someone* would give me shit for disliking Tom Hanks.
