alright.. help me out.. I'm researching music equipment. Headphones. I want a pair of good ones. It's not urgent because I'm willing to take the research time to find Juuuuuuuust the right ones.
I fully expect them to be expensive, so that's no big deal either.
I'd rather have quality than just another "for right now" set because I'm tired of feeling like I'm only really getting parts of the music.

So ... I was looking at some Koss Pro-4AA headphones... I dunno if I like them, the reviews say they're heavy, but they've got the full ear coverage and the full pad, which I prefer for sound blocking and it's usually more comfortable.
I'd like some that aren't disgustingly heavy, but at the same time, I'd prefer something that isn't plastic crap.

I'm looking for actual really high quality, studio grade headphones. If you have any ideas, reccomendations, what have you, I'd be more than happy to hear them.

Yeah, sure, Dave.

heh... does it matter what sort of music I'm mainly listening to? Just curious.

I'm not going to be playing music... so I want something with decent (but not featured, if that makes sense) sound cancelling.

I've been happy with my super cheap (under $30) sony headphones. They're just getting old and I lust after that set that Sean had (the brand I dunno) that I borrowed from him for awhile. He was a DJ, (but not a DeeJay) so he had some really nice quality headphones... and now I want some.

Nah it doesn't if you get high quality ones like Sennhauser, cause they're more studio monitors. Most recording studios use them.

First of all.. SENNHEISER.
HEISER.
not Hauser.
HEISER.

(hehehe)

And looking at the specs on both the studio monitor sets (the one I picked and the one from sennheiser), the differences are very very little. The Sony has a better frequency response (5Hz-30KHz compared to Sennheiser's 8Hz-25KHz), Sony also has a much much lower impedience (24 ohms to Sennheiser's 64 ohms), The Seinnheiser is a little more sensitive (118 dB/mW instead of Sony's 107 dB/mW.
But other than that, they're both run with dynamic transducers, have similar ear pads and I don't really care about the cord sooooo yeah.

And there is another set of phones that's one up from the ones I picked on the Sony side that blows all the Sennheiser's out of the water. The ones I'm comparing to the Sennheisers (MSRP $199.95) are MSRP $149.99.

Very comparable quality, $50 less.

I dunno, I've just never had luck with anything Sony, but I know I'm the exception, not the rule. What I like about Sennheisers is that they only make headphones, they specialize in them, plus most recording studios use them. I've used them a few times. I personaly have a pair of Koss ones that are decent.
Anyway, the Sony ones look great too, I'd go to a place and see if they let you listen to the different ones, proof's in the pudding.

Dude, I dunno. Both my phones, headphones, alarm clock/cd player thingy, and vcr have all outdone themselves, they're all Sony.

I've had probablems with just about every other popular brand of home electronics except Aiwa... and I'm not really thrilled with the sound on my lil Aiwa boom box...

Sooo yeah.
And I know they specialize in headphones, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're the best.
(though the changeable parts are good too)
