Below the purpose and mission statements starchy quoted is also this:
"ACTIVITIES: To explore issues, conduct studies and analysis, locate and eliminate projects and institutions which undermine national security. To develop and promote a cultural agenda which cultivates a positive image of America, cultural initiatives in the homeland and abroad. To support good cultural initiatives, consult cultural institutions, and provide executive education through a variety of activities including: workshops, conferences, table-top exercises, publications, outreach programs, and promote dialogue."
Now that scares the hell out of me.
"To develop and promote a cultural agenda which cultivates a positive image of America, cultural initiatives in the homeland and abroad"
Something about this doesn't really feel real. And I hope it's not. In the History section, having Ashcroft supposedly say that he and Jessie Helms came up with this idea in the 90s as a reaction to the NEA.... something a little too pat about that. Or maybe I just *want* it to be a fake.
Volunteering to be part of the NetPatrol and submitting to conduct checks.... "We believe that culture is our country's greatest asset and should be utilized to its fullest potential in the war against terror. " .. and this not being a .gov adress.
If it's all fake, it's a really frightening site.If it's all real, it's even more frightening. Just reading the FAQ is... wow.
Think I'll go hide in my closet now.
