sooo yeah

I had a bad day yesterday.
The beginning part was fine. I was up early and I planned on doing laundry all day, sorting stuff out to pack, maybe cleaning out the fridge.
I was sitting on the couch playing animal crossing and waiting for the oven to heat up for my lil frozen pizza thing when there was a smell that wasn't the normal oven heating up smell.
I remembered about the time I saw the smoke pouring out of the range that Karl had a few empty pizza boxes in the oven. He usually uses the countertop convection oven thingy anyway... and in retrospect I wonder why I didn't.
Anyway, the boxes were on fire. I ran around looking for a fire extinguisher, couldn't find one. I called Karl at his office and asked and put out the fire and then got to deal with the fire alarms and the house security alarms. It smoked enough that you couldn't see *anything* in the kitchen, living room, dining room or front hall.
But after I got the freaking batteries out of the smoke alarm and got the code put into the security system it was dealable.
Somewhere in the middle of things, though, I lost Karl and by the time we got back in contact, he was on his way home.
There was a layer of extinguisher exhaust and ash over most of the upstairs. It was bad. It was movie-like.
But the cats were okay and I was alright (just totally fucking freaked out) so when Karl got here and saw how bad it was, he called around to some places and got a cleaning crew to come out.
Hehe.. I don't think they were expecting quite the post-apocalyptic landscape, but they were good sports about it and we helped them here and there too.
Most of the stuff in the kitchen is still sort of...grimy... but these guys even cleaned out the microwave. And given the state of the house in general when they walked in, I can't say that that's something I would have done.

From there things definitely got better, sitting here now I just feel like I'm forgetting a million things.

I meant to finish up packing and laundry stuff last night, but I ended up laying down and falling asleep. I think the night before packing thing is maybe a mandatory thing for me. It makes me feel like I'm more together or something. I was always the kid losing things or leaving things behind, so feeling like I've got everything I need all in one little spot is a good good thing.

OH, and Karl bought a Gameboy Advanced SP and some linkable games for the trip. Becuase we're geeks.
The karl = the good.
for many many many reasons.

if the boxes are too damn big to fit in the fridge, that's were my pizza goes. keeps pets out of the food. although typically, when they are empty, i trash them...but busy people get distracted :)

and wow holly, i think you set a world record.

right now I'm in his office and thus far everyone has said something about me 'burning down the house'

And hey, at least it was just a small cardboard fire in the oven and not an out and out fire fire. THAT would have been truly horrible.
Imagine how freaked I was as it is.

Ummm... to get to the other side? No, wait, that's a whole 'nother riddle.

oh! i know how that goes. a housemate set a grease fire in the kitchen on accident once and i put it out with the extinguisher. problem was, she didn't get out of the way, so she was covered in that nasty yellow powder too. Hiring a crew was the way to go. I had to do things like pull out every plate and glass and re-wash... we were finding that shit in cracks and crevices for years.
