I voted last night.
Got the sticker and everything.

I've decided that I'm going to be out of town for EVERY election. Aside from the really cranky old lady taking the forms, it was quick and pleasant.

PLEEEEASE go out and vote.

I'm anticipating a 5 am drunken/screaming/obnoxious party thing in France when we hear that Bush was not reelected. The French will like that, I think.

So true! Almost to a T, same experience here. :)

Well, if you're in Lorton... did you have to go to the Fairfax Government Center?
If so .. then that would be why it was the same experience. Heh.

Not really sure where the boundaries are up here yet, so I'm not sure if Lorton is Fairfax county or not.

Dur, just went and looked at your latest entry... I bet it was the same lady. White hair, lots of weird moles on her neck.
She actually sighed heavily and said "Look, we've got *another* one" .
When some guy was waiting for me to finish up (because he was voting from the same district and needed the machine I was using) he asked her if she's seen a lot of people this year and she said that yes, turn out was a lot heavier than usual. He also asked if she was there all the time and she said "Margaret is (referring to the other voter official there). She actually LIKES it!"

Karl and I wondered if she wasn't doing some sort of parolee community service gig.

Ha! Have to wonder sometimes.

The ladies at the main counter were nice enough; I don't remember much about the lady in the voting but that she wasn't as nice. :)

Interesting thought. I can't, this time, 'cos my registration's all wierd-- I'm registered in two different places, and neither of 'em is where I actually live.

Typically in most states you just send in the voter registration form with your correct info and the info of where you *were* registered to fix an address.

Of course, if you're registered in TWO places, uh .. that's voter fraud and you'll probably have to actually talk to the actual people at the registrar's office face to face to straighten it out.

The two-places thing, I cleared up with a letter to the place I live farther away from saying "I don't live here, pleeeease unregister me!..."

If I'd found out about all this sooner, it would have been easier, but I didn't think to check it out until a week or so ago. A stitch in time saves nine in your bloody, gashed-open cheek, or something like that.

There was a guy in there near me in need of face-to-face assistance--he was living in Mass., then stationed in Iraq, filed for an absentee ballot, never received it, and then was posted to VA--so he had to certify that he never received the absentee ballot from MA, and that his new address for registration was VA, and that he'd be voting absentee here anyhow.
