Well it turns out that the huge (more than 1/4 of an inch, but less than 1/2 an inch), pus colored, thing that that looked like a hunk of plastic that was sticking out of Mika's neck suddenly earlier in the week was in fact a tick.
Well, it was *two* ticks. And they were sooo fat and happy that they'd formed this bizarre plasticy tick village for themselves.

The vet ripped it off, dug around in there for the other bits, gave her a test for whip worms and that was that. So yay. No more nightmares about my dog being afflicted with really terrible things.

We just watched the director's cut of Dawn of the Dead (the 2004 version). I really have to say.. those who felt that it was dumb becuase of the fast zombies sort of missed the point of this remake and the original. This was one long chunk of tension. I am again sort of impressed. I think I take horror in a very different way than most.

If you like stylish kinda creepy (but not necessarily FUCKING SCARY) movies I recommend Whispering Corridors. We watched that the other night and it was great.

Now we have food from China Star, I'm going to put Iron Giant on the top of the NetFlix queue becuase Karl hasn't seen it and he just needs to, and then we might just watch another movie I think.

Also - I got a written warning for harassment from a WoW GM, I keep forgetting that my birthday is coming up soon, and I've decided that George Clooney aint so bad afterall.

The traditional tick-removal trick is to light a match, blow it out, and poke the tick with it. It's hot enough to make the little bastard pull out (thus avoiding the "bits left in" problem), not so hot as to kill it before it can get out.

He should watch it at least twice.

Who've you been harassing on WoW? Were you humping somebody's leg?

The thing is.. it didn't look like a tick. It was just this large... thing... poking out of her skin. They were so engorged that they were all deformed I guess. I check the dog over for ticks regularly, but we are guessing she picked them up at our friend's place where she spends *much* more time outside.

At for WoW, I called someone a moron. They reprimanded me for "picking on" this guy. I think it's neat though that they only reprimanded me, but not him for repeatedly calling me a fag, letting me know that he doesn't like fags, and asking when I wanted my ass kicked. He also told me to shut the fuck up on several ocassions. Considering he is the pansy ass idiot who probably reported me, I'm sure he wasn't too thorough.

ticks are freaky and upsetting. i get all kinds of totally freaked out about the very possibility of ticks. are you guys using one of those once-a-month applicated flea goo thingys? cause the one we got supposidly keeps the evil ticks away as well. (advantix. i get it cheaper at drugstore.com than at my vet, by about $20/box)

besides desperately wanting to know who you beat up in WoW, i really want to know about this george clooney thing.

We don't use the once a month flea application. Mika is still outside when we're out with her. If fleas ever started to look like an issue at all we'd consider it I think, but as of now she's been through a full year with no fleas and only this one tick incident.

The george clooney thing was really just a thing I was talking about the other day with my mom. I used to really just not "get it". What the deal was with him. Now, I kinda like him.

yeah, we get pretty wicked fleas, stupid no rain for 8 months! and, although the dogs arn't as bothered by it, i'm allergic to flea bites, so each one swells up like a golf ball and is puffy 6 inches across.

has she stopped growing yet?

we *think* she's stopped growing. I think she had another little growth spurt a few weeks ago, but aside from that I haven't noticed any more "my god, you couldn't reach that last week" episodes.
She might fill out a little from here, which is fine for her frame.

She is suprisingly light given her size. The chick at the vet said she was 81 lbs and "very lean" while the freakin malamute was 84 lbs, slightly overweight, and about 3 inches taller.
She's got that super model frame.
