I really want to rant about stuff. But I'm really sure what I want to say. There are definitely things in the last two weeks that have been rant worthy. But most of it takes so much explanation (becuase it all stems from issues that came up well over a year ago) that it's just not worth it. It's not really a "I went to X and Y happened, what the fuck?" type of story. It's more like something I would have to cross reference with previous posts, fill in the backgrounds, and explain various cryptic posts from ages ago.
Plus I'd have to at least friends filter it becuase it deals with work but then I'd probably make super special filters so only certain people could read it becuase not everyone on the friends list needs to know about my work stuff.

I have lots and lots of work. That's good and bad. Finishing two reports and another summation/comparative document. Finishing Huge Scary Study with the (sort of) national scope. Starting another two studies this coming Tuesday. Then sometime in December I guess I'll be doing 2 more and then another with a different software app that they're working on now. So I'll be non-stop booked through about Christmas.

It becomes ever more clear every day who the "real" people in my life are. That means people who aren't fake to themselves or others and people who aren't fake when it comes to their feelings. I have infinitely more respect for the person who gives me the obvious "I don't care about you" than the person who pretends to give a shit. And that's whether it's toward me or toward someone else. If you don't give a shit, then just don't. Don't pretend you do... why? so someone thinks you're a better person? Bullshit. If you don't care, you don't care.
And if you do care, then don't be a fuck.

Earlier in the week the "holy shit my glasses are so old" came to a head and the nosepad fell off in the yard. I spent 20 minutes looking through the leaves mud and grass. I was SO pissed. But we went that night, got an eye exam, got new contacts (temps, they have to order mine becuase I'm very blind), and got new glasses. They're these great cobalt blue Armani frames with compressed lenses. With -5.50 in one eye and -6.00 in the other, without the slimming, I'm walking around with coke bottles. Pretty glasses! And I can see again. No more headaches becuase I have to stare at the computer for 12+ hours every day. Yay!

Our connection is all screwy and they need to replace the line from the street to the house. Who knows when that will happen. But until then it is packet-loss city. The cable guy today was really tall and snaggle toothed, kind of an asshole, and very weird. I think you *have* to be pretty fucking creepy to work for the cable company. It's on the Application. "Do you frighten small children", "Do women regularly cross the street to avoid you", "Do dogs and cats hiss and growl at your approach"

Mika is being a spoiled whiney ass. So I'm going to spoil her and take her out for a run around the yard and then try to focus on work instead of the fact that it's Friday.

Filters are a bit silly.

If you want to say something but can't say it to a group called "friends only" then what's the point.

Also if not seen, watch Miike Takeshi's Dead or Alive 1 and 3/Final. Don't watch the 2nd one though, it's rubbish. Gloriously over the top pisstake action.

Soooo raaaaaaaambly
I really can't talk about work in general in an open entry. My friends list at this point is heavily loaded with people who've pissed me the fuck off or who I just don't give a shit about anymore but haven't bothered to remove. I haven't made some super filtered post becuase I figure I can easily vent about it in real life to the people who need to hear it without having to deal with all that bullshit.

Suffice it to say, people who've been shits in the past continue to **shock and dismay** be utter little shits.

I haven't seen Dead or Alive yet but it's on the ever growing list. As soon as we can *find* The Killer we'll be watching that (not Ichii the Killer, that we've seen). Last night we were going to watch Once Upon a Time in China in America and discovered that that is also MIA and not in its case. So we just jumped to another Jet Li Folk Story hero film and watched Wong Fei Hong (which might be one of the fucking goofiest movies I've ever seen outside of the obvious Sammo Hung/Tsui Hark crazies).

I really need to update that movie list becuase while I still haven't seen Zu: Warriors From Magic Mountain most of those others in the "need to see" list have been watched at this point.

We were talking about this last night... is there such a thing as a Chinese Science Fiction movie?

Re: Soooo raaaaaaaambly
2046 is set in the future, dunno if it's sci-fi though. I haven't gotten around to watching it since I got a copy with English. I should probably get around to watching Ichi the Killer/Happiness of the Katakuris sometime, since I've owned the region 3 dvds for over a year.

Dead or Alive 3 is set in the future with "replicants" but the future is pretty much the same as today.

I don't recall seeing any films set in space or anything like that. 'Savior of the Soul' is a vague horror/fantasy hong kong film though.

Re: Soooo raaaaaaaambly
We have a film called Natural City that seems like "Japanese Blade Runner" with a dash of Logan's Run that we just haven't watched yet.
There was Casshern which I have a hard time calling Sci Fi, despite the massive robots and dystopic future-world.

I have not heard of Savior of the Soul. I'll have to look into that.

We watched Alien the other night and were in the mood for more horror/sci-fi and absolutely couldn't think of anything. The problem is most of our random access to movies is through NicheFlix (for non-region 1 stuff) and NetFlix so you stick it in the queue and then just get surprised by it down the road.

We've held off on 2046 becuase I wanted to see Happy Together, Fallen Angels, and In the Mood For Love first since I've been intrigued by Wong Kar Wai's visual style but got wrapped up in other things first.

Ichii the Killer wasn't what I was expecting. So it was good. Much more like Miike's gangster niche and less like his Visitor Q "what the holy fuck" symbolism thing. Still haven't seen Happiness of the Katakuris.

HKflix.com and dvdasian.com are both good sources for good transfer, good mastering, non-motherfuckingdubbed versions of just about any asian film (not country specific). They also review technical notes and offer multiple versions so you can choose which cut you want (since the Taiwan cut will vary greatly from the Korean cut, for example, in a lot of movies).

Poker Industries too. Good site. I usually scan all three of those when shopping.

Also, Natural City = Korean Blade Runner. You're thinking of "Gate of Flesh". Or not.

And now, more icons.

Had Happy Together/In the Mood for Love and Ashes of Time for ages and not got around to watching them. I find you need to be in a certain kind of mood to watch one of Kar-Wai's films. I think I nabbed As Tears go By and Days of Being Wild recently too.

Tears of the Black Tiger is a good Thai western with comedy bits. It's so... PINK and so ridiculously over done in the melodrama it's quite good fun to watch.

If I can ever remember to go to the post office. I'll have to do a dvd-r of tat or something. CHARLIE SHEEN - THE CHASE is a must see for the world.

I forgot about 2046, but it's... well I think we're thinking more obvious "sci-fi" trappings than that. You know, lasers. Critters. Possibly Sean Connery.

Saviour of the Soul is... yeah... it's what it is. Interesting, and also from the first (or nearly) batch of HK films to make it onto R1 DVD. Funny little paper box and everything. Go figure. I should go dig that out of whatever box it's buried in at the moment.

Don't be afraid to steal poster art
Stars Sibelle Hu and directed by the guy who did "The Big Deal". How have I not seen this yet? I mean surely it's no "It's a Drink, It's a Bomb", but it's got to be worth a viewing.

Re: Soooo raaaaaaaambly
...is the correct answer!

Our judges would have also accepted "Outland" or possibly "The Man Who Would Be King", but only when Sir Sean's dialogue is isolated and played back at random over a handheld tape recorder (condenser mic variety).

Re: Soooo raaaaaaaambly
At this point I kinda just wanna find a better version of The Killer and buy it. Mine was the Criterion version that came out years ago, but some of the R2/R3 discs seem to have an "uncut" version and possibly a soundtrack that isn't "digital mono", though I'm not 100% on that. We'll have to scan the usual DVD sites and pick one out, because DOVES, HOLLY, DOVES AND SHOOTING.

Same thing with OUATIC&A too. Er, look for new version that is, not DOVES, HOLLY. Hell, I think it's one of the really early ones that literally doesn't have a menu, just starts up and then quits when the movie is over, like my copy of Fong Sai-Yuk (you always mix him and Wong Fei Hung - it's like The Hives and The Strokes with you), etc.

Seriously. Chinese/HK sci-fi. We have/have seen Japanese, Korean, no Thai yet... but yeah, considering the volume of Chinese films available on DVD, you'd think there'd be *one* in the bunch.

Re: Soooo raaaaaaaambly
Why do I mix up Fong Sai-Yuk and Wong Fei Hung?

I did that like 4 times last night WHILE WE WERE WATCHING THE MOVIE with his name plastered all over the place.

the Hives and the Strokes... doesn't matter if you mix them up, they're the same fucking piece of shit band.

I think I mix up Fong Sai-Yuk and Wong Fei Hung becuase they're both folk heros and both have been played in various forms by a ALOT of action film stars. At least I don't confuse Zatoichi with either of them. "Is he the drunken boxing guy or the blind massure? OH Wait... he's the champion of China who battled the foreigners... or uh .. wait... Dragon dance? Wasn't he "Ah Luove yaou"?"

Or I'm just a dirty racist.

Holy crap, Shaw Brothers Ultraman.

Technically, that counts, though I think what we were *hoping* for was something a bit more mod-ren and serious. Still, just... wow. You. With that stuff. Wow.

I think it involves your hands shooting off of your arms like rockets and hitting people across the room. I haven't seen the movie in a while. There is, however, a wav of the relevant exchange here.
