This page comparing still (without real context) of Pi, Fight Club, and American Beauty might just be the dumbest fucking thing I've seen today.

And I've been reading IMDB, Editing comments from my last study, and watching movie trailers for things that star jennifer Aniston so I'm not exactly wallowing in the smart end of the pool.

"they're both on public transportation". OH MY GOD, NO WAY. In a major metropolitan area they BOTH ENDED UP ON A FORM OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT. FUCKING STUNNING. IT HAS TO Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeean something.

Pi (and every other movie by Aronofsky) is such utter SHIT. Every 15 year old thinks they're Tyler fucking Durden (it's the movie that made insomnia "cool", bless their little faker hearts) and American Beauty went from "hey that's neat" to being just another movie run into the ground by a public awed and amazed when someone manages to produce a movie that stands out even a HAIR from the rest of the pack.

pseudo-intellectual twats who try to find deeper meaning in a movie about math that isn't ACTUALLY ABOUT MATH AT ALL, shot in black and white for that "artsy" look, dark grain, high contrast, intelligence insulting bullshit. How does this guy keep getting films? Why do so many people think Requim For a Dream is such an incredible film? Is it just that people have never known anyone who was ACTUALLY a junky or was it the Jared Leto factor?

OH MY GOD... Jared Leto was in Requim for a Dream AND in Fight Club! And... holy shit! Fincher who directed Fight Club also directed Panic Room, another Jared Leto movie. Make a page! Quick!

Ah, the imdb. I'm sure I only visit that place to get my blood pressure up. Never fails. I've not seen Pi, but I've heard people raving about it... although they were the same people who raved about Donnie Darko, so they're kind of easy to dismiss.

ahaha
" Main characters in bed. "

" Sex scenes with feet sticking out. "

Wow, fucking hell, that's heavy duty. Not desperate scrabbling, or anything.

Ahh.. but I liked Donnie Darko. The first time I saw it. Not the 30th. And it wasn't BEST MOVIE EVER. But it was neat... again.. the *first* time I saw it.

You have no idea how glad I am that someone else finds neither Pi nor American Beauty the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Like I said... American Beauty was interesting for what it was right at the time it came out. It stood out. But it was a contextual time and place thing... not something that actually stands up. Looking back on it now, it just doesn't bear repeated viewings. It just falls apart under scrutiny.

Pi is probably one of the most overrated films ever from one of the most overrated writer/directors ever. I despise him and his shit shit movies. Heh, that movie literally made me so angry the first time I saw it that I couldn't stop telling people how bad it was for weeks after the fact.

Requiem for a dream is really fun to watch if you were a fan of Labyrinth as a kid though.

Jennifer Connelly isn't exactly on my "reason to watch anything" list. In fact, she might be a reason against in some cases.

I want to watch her Dario Argento film she did in the 80s.

Aronofsky's films are okay, I don't have any problems watching them every now and then (although the last 20 or so minutes of pi are annoying). They're not in the same league as fight club, american beauty, donnie darko etc for only watch them once and never again though.

Wes Anderson has reached the same level of cuntish obsession that those attract too. A Life Aquatic was okay, but I have no desire to ever watch it again even with a Bowie soundtrack. It's not psuedo-intellectual so much as a brand of psuedo-elitism for the masses really. The same can be said of popular music, anime, games etc etc.

The new mainstream is kidding itself into thinking that it's not.

It's all this faux-indie stuff. I'm not sure how they justify the "indie" tag anymore when they're getting multi-plex distribution and multi-million dollar budgets.

There are also much less disturbing ways to see Ms. Connolly naked. :-)

I liked the imagery in Requiem. Didn't like Pi much at all.
