Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes

The tangled webs they weave span from Pine to Ruby Ridge, way back from Shay's defeat on up to Gustafsen (now cue the ass parade of ditto-heads and commissars and pricks to drown out this faintest threat of commie faggot heretics). Conclusion: the nail that sticks up gets hammered down and the master's finest tools are found slack-jawed and placid amidst the cacophony of screaming billboards and Disney-fied history. Sometimes the ties that bind are strange: no justice shines upon the cemetery plots marked Hampton, Weaver, or Anna-Mae where Federal Bureaus and Fraternal Orders have cast their shadows; permanent features built into these borders. But undercover of the customary gap we find between History and Truth, the Founding Fathers bask in the rocket's blinding red glare. The bombs bursting in the air. One nation. Indivisible? The truth is when the back-country learned of ratification the People had a coffin painted black and solemnly borne in funeral procession, they buried it deep in the earth as an emblem of the dissolution and internment of the Publick Liberty.
Someday, somewhere, today's empires are tomorrow's ashes.

letting the tv news filter into my head the last two days I heard something about a man who was being fired from a very elite, tiny, expensive private school here and it having something to do with pornography and there were many interviews with concerned parents and talks about background checks and wether or not the man in question had had one and what sort of background he had and so forth.
The way it was presented, in it's vague outrage, it sounded for all the world like this man was molesting children in the school and taking photos for his own sick lil rememberances. I wasn't the only one who thought it sounded like that. I asked around.
So. Today I was really actually paying attention to the news becuase there had just been a cutsey little story on about Todd, this friend at a bagel shop up the street who, in order to get people to read his writing, takes home stacks of napkins and writes out pieces of his work on them and then stocks the napkin dispensers at the shop with them. They, of course, presented him as a kook. I happen to know he's wonderful.
The story about the afterschool coordinator at this private school came on and I actually listened. What happened was that the computer tech at the school did a scheduled search of the systems and found two particularly large files of pornography that traced back to the desk of this afterschool coordinator.
He was silly enough to download and keep porn on his work computer. That was it.

The "news" in general, but most especially the smug, overly done up, local news casts have overstepped their bounds over and over in the name of sensationalism. They knew that this was a non-story. And not ONE of the local newscasts could keep themselves from making it seem *much* more than it was. Not only have they publicised this man's humiliating firing from a prestigous school, but they spent 3 days, on every newscast throughout the day using vague language and inflammatory peripherals to make the man out to be a child molester.
The 'news' is supposed to be a succinct delivery of the facts. These pampered, pompous pseudo tv personalities just can't keep themselves from making pat, outlandish and uninformed commentary. One of the sports guys on the channel in question has actually had DUI convictions on three seperate occasions. Never have a seen a hard hitting expose on HIS foibles.

  • Oh LJ...

While I rarely have the energy or mental clarity for a fully fleshed out blah blah in the livejournal, I almost always have the energy for picspam…

  • Yep, still feeling old

Well alright, Semagic has changed more than a little since the last time I used it. Heh. This is pretty ridiculous. Because Tamara has chosen to…

  • (no subject)

I think I need to remember to keep the LJ open in the background. Download another client for it and actually run the thing. Maybe that will increase…
