I enjoy football. I have some weird allegiences, but for the most part I just pick a team per game. There are a couple teams I hate and will always root against. The raiders, the cowboys, and the packers. I HATE the packers. Probably because of an ex's cheesehead family. But the horrible hate has stuck with me. Fuck Brett Favre. Hates him.

So the superbowl was going to be pretty boring for me. The Pats are undefeated and that's neat. But of course I'd have to root for them against the Packers. I just looked today and realized that NO, the Giants beat the Packers. THE GIANTS. SO Hometown boy Plaxico Buress is going to the super bowl. And I already like the Giants because they, as a team, have got heart to spare.

SO YAY

I can care about the superbowl this year. I would LOVE to see the Giants destroy the Pats. LOVE IT.

The American Football fad last from the late 80s (Dan Marino era) until the Dallas Cowboys started winning everything repeatedly and the Jacksonville Jaguars/Carolina Panthers appeared. There was also a slight Wayne Gretzky/NHL fad but hockey is so fucking boring to watch.

Come to think about it... it happened at the same time as the WWF fad as well. Perhaps there was a general enthusiasm for US sports due to the recent (at the time) influx of their availability on satellite television. Baseball never took off, it's just rounders isn't it.

I've never understood the appeal of baseball. I can't imagine why it took off here, let alone in any other country.
